I had a discussion at home last week. What is better: taking a shower in the morning or taking a shower in the evening? This seems to be an age-old debate. When also asking this to friends, they have arguments for both points in time. But I found out that there are interesting things that play a role of importance for solving this shower question.
During the summer, when the air is soft with humidity, your skin is unlikely to dry out even if you take multiple daily showers. So there’s no reason to choose between an evening or a morning rinse. You can enjoy both with shower creams and body lotions afterwards. Do not forget to use products with natural ingredients, wonderful fragrances and soft textures that are beneficent for your skin.
I love the Milky range, which is especially suitable in case you have a dry or sensitive skin. Milky is based on vegetable milks and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
* Wake up & fall asleep
A shower in the morning can help you shake off the sleep and get fresh and ready for the day. But a shower in the evening can be very relaxing, like a kind of last step and last part of ‘me-time’ before going to bed: wind down without mails, television, smartphone and only the luxury of warm water flowing over body. This seems contradictory. So the same shower activity can both wake you up and help you get to sleep!
* Daily activity
In case of intensive physical activity during the day, a shower in the evening can be preferable. Because when going to bed, you want to have a clean feeling. But also in case of a seated profession, it can still be better to take the shower in the evening: during day you have to deal with free radicals, pollutants and dirt. Of course, it’s also a great way to remove your makeup. Besides the clean skin, evening showers also have the advantage to create a clear mind, especially for people who have a hard time unwinding from their day or getting to sleep.
* Hair care
When showering in the evening note that, going to bed with wet hair is bad for your follicles. It can lead to long-term damage. Why? Because hair is prone to breakage when it’s wet.
* Preparing yourself and your skin for the new day
For the busy people among us, a morning shower with a tempting shower cream can have a meditative effect and will allow us to take time to think over the whole long and hectic day to come. Also a morning shower can stimulate the skin cells, especially when they have relaxed during your sleep. People who shower in the morning seem to report feeling more alert during the day. Note that it is best to have a luke-warm shower as a shower that is too hot, can dry out your skin.
My conclusion: like lots of other things in life, the answer to the question ‘what is the best time to take a shower?’ is …. It really just depends on yourself!
